How we compile and check our figures

Be EV Wise gives general information to help you compare electric, plug-in hybrid and hybrid cars sold new in the UK. It is not financial, legal or technical advice, and figures should always be confirmed with the seller.

Who prepares Be EV Wise

The car data

Our list covers 281 versions of new cars on sale or announced in the UK. The 184 versions listed in September 2026 were compiled from published UK sources that month; the 97 versions added on 11 October 2026 (including 61 model ranges that were new to the list) were compiled from EV Database UK on that date, when we also re-read the GOV.UK Electric Car Grant list and re-checked guide prices for the pure EVs already listed. Pure EV figures come mainly from EV Database UK (ev-database.org/uk); plug-in hybrid electric ranges from Drive, What Car?, RAC Drive and Auto Express; hybrid prices are indicative bands. For each car:

• Guide price is the published list or guide price we found, and some prices may already include the Electric Car Grant.
• Range for fully electric cars is our typical real-world estimate, which is lower than the official WLTP figure. For plug-in hybrids it is the official electric-only figure.
• Rapid charging is the peak DC charging power published for the car (EV Database's "Charge Power (max)"). A real 10-80% charging session averages less, because power falls as the battery fills. Until 11 October 2026 the list showed the 10-80% average instead.
• Battery chemistry is shown only where a source names it.
• Brand warranty is shown only where we are confident of it.
• Grant shows whether a version appeared on the published Electric Car Grant list when we checked.
• Reliability links to the Warrantywise Reliability Index rather than giving our own score.

New figures and tools (16 October 2026)

Specifications. For every pure EV we added, from the same EV Database UK page we already use: official WLTP range, efficiency (miles per kWh), usable and gross battery size, the 10–80% charging time and average power, AC charging rate, charge-port position, power and 0–62 mph, heat pump (standard, optional or none), vehicle-to-load, -home and -grid, length, width, height, kerb weight, boot with the seats folded and towing. Where our list had no boot, towing or battery-chemistry figure, we filled it from the same source. Guide prices, real-world range and grant bands are unchanged from our checked figures.

Hybrids and plug-in hybrids. Boot, towing, official economy and CO2, power and 0–62 mph come from manufacturers' UK websites and from Parkers, Carwow, Auto Express and Driving Electric, checked on 16 October 2026; each car's sources are shown on its page. Where sources disagreed we left the figure out.

Price watch. Every day our checker reads EV Database UK's current price for each pure EV in our list and shows any difference on the price changes page. Our own guide prices change only after a check by the editor.

Cost of ownership. The calculator uses GOV.UK vehicle tax and eVED rates, the Ofgem price cap, the government's weekly fuel prices, the Zapmap price index, Which? and MyBuilder installation costs, servicing figures from The Car Expert and Clear Vehicle Data, the ABI average premium and published depreciation data. Every assumption is shown beside the result and can be changed.

Charging. Grant and planning information comes from GOV.UK, the government grants service and legislation.gov.uk; tariff prices from suppliers' own websites. Charger locations come from Open Charge Map and its data providers, shown with each charger; the government's National Chargepoint Registry closed in November 2024. Postcodes are looked up with postcodes.io; maps © OpenStreetMap contributors.

Used cars. Battery sizes and real-world ranges come from EV Database UK, warranty terms from manufacturers' UK pages (and the reviews named on each page where those are not available), and typical asking prices from AutoUncle UK's market data. Where sources disagree, each page says so.

Charging curves on model pages are illustrative: drawn so that their average matches EV Database's published 10–80% figure, not measured curves.

Tax, grant and legal guides

Our guides on tax, the grant, the Congestion Charge and public charging are written from official sources, including GOV.UK, HM Treasury, the House of Commons Library, Transport for London and legislation.gov.uk. Each guide lists its sources, and the full list is on our sources page.

How often we check

Prices, ranges and the grant list change often. Each page shows when it was last reviewed, and changes to the rules are recorded on our recent changes page.

Automatic checks and new models

Since October 2026 two things are checked automatically every day. First, the official and established pages behind the questions and answers on our topic guides (the Electric Car Grant and its list of eligible cars, vehicle tax and the pay-per-mile eVED, company car tax, Zapmap’s charging prices, the Public Charge Point Regulations, consumer rights, recalls and MOT history, and the Energy Saving Trust, Which? and Warrantywise reports): if one changes in a way that affects an answer, a suggested rewrite is put in front of the editor, and only approved wording appears on a guide, marked “Updated” with the date. Second, the full UK catalogue of electric cars on sale, announced and discontinued is compared with the cars in the app, together with launch news from the motoring press, so that new models are spotted quickly and added to the car data and round-ups.
